Café Caturra
Two Great Places In One

Coffeehouse café by day, wine cafe by night! That's the concept behind Café Caturra, now with two locations — Alverser Drive, across from Chesterfield Towne Center and the newest location in Midlothian Village Square shopping center off Midlothian Turnpike.

The wine, as well as their in-house roasted coffee, and wide variety of unique food items make Café Caturra a one-of-a-kind place to dine or just hang out.

At Café Caturra, it's possible to eat, drink and be merry all day without ever leaving the premises! Start your day with a fresh, hot cup of coffee, made on-site with artisan roasted beans, while enjoying a pastry or one of the Café's other delectable bakery items. Kick back, relax, read the newspaper or check email on your laptop, and savor your coffee in front of the cozy fireplace. When lunchtime rolls around, treat yourself to a café style lunch where you can choose from paninis, wraps, salads or homemade soups. If the mid-afternoon blahs strike, grab an afternoon espresso and a bakery snack for a little pick-me-up. Stick around until 4pm and the best part of the day begins at Café Caturra when it transforms itself into a wine café! Offering, by the glass or bottle, an extensive selection of wines from around the world, cheese to nosh with your wine, as well as light dinner fare, Café Caturra truly can take care of all your daily nourishment needs!

I spoke with Lawson Stover, Directing Partner, who does a little of everything at Café Caturra, from acting as Manager, Food Director and often Executive Chef. "We offer fresh roasted coffee during the day, wine at night and simple, fresh food all day long," says Stover. Referring to their wine by the glass as "wine on tap", Stover says the wine, as well as their in-house roasted coffee, and wide variety of unique food items make Café Caturra a one-of-a-kind place to dine or just hang out. That statement couldn't be more true!

With a warm, inviting decor and cozy atmosphere, you'll immediately feel right at home at Café Caturra. When I visited the newest location at Midlothian Village Square, for lunch, it was apparent how popular it has become. Full of lunchtime hustle and bustle, every demographic in Midlothian was found dining at Café Caturra, from suit-clad business people, construction workers, folks working on laptops, mothers and grandmothers with children in tow, as well as two well-kept ladies enjoying a glass of wine, with lunch, at the countertop bar. It was obvious this was the local lunch hot spot with the Village of Midlothian!

With no seats available inside, my lunch companion and I chose a table on the covered patio right on front of the outdoor fireplace. Perfect! My lunch of a grilled chicken and Gorgonzola cheese panini with a side salad was delicious and filling. The only thing that would've made it even better was a glass of good wine but since I have this crazy rule about not drinking before five (except on vacation), I reluctantly decided to forgo the wine at lunch. I do, however, plan to return Wednesday evening (from 6:00-7:00) for the Midlothian Village location's weekly wine tasting event, featuring different wine regions from around the world each week. On Thursdays, you can also enjoy relaxing live music from 7:00-9:00 PM at that location. Wine tasting's are held at the Alverser location Tuesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 PM and live music can also be found there on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 until 9:00. In 2008, two west end locations are also anticipated to open.

If you're looking for a warm, inviting and cozy atmosphere for your next breakfast, lunch, dinner, cup of coffee or glass of wine, you'll definitely want to visit Café Caturra. And while it may not be to realistic to make your visit and all-day event, you may actually find it hard to leave!
